whooo, what a long title for todays blog
wanted a summery bag to go with my white/navy summer wardrobe
seem always drawn back to blues and greens - the bag sort of merges with the surroundings, don't you think?

daughter back from camp today...hurray! needed  a good session in a nice deep bubble bath  and an industrial strength  hairwash and detangle from mum, followed by her favourite supper - rack of barbecue ribs;  I did partake of one or two myself.

Bought the silk as lining, but thought I'd experiment with it on the exterior
Suffering from overanxious mom syndrome tonight as have not heard from daughter at camp; they assure me thats because she is OK...........anyway have booked a call with her tomorrow night to double check ( MUM! )

got to work on this lovely print, but had run out of sew in interfacing so used medium iron on..........now realise why pattern said sew in  as very tricky to get right without super intensive heavy ironing

I refused to let it get the better of me, but it was near thing

Daughter off to camp tomorrow so late night packing acoming on. I will miss her........but will mean that I don't have to watch non stop Simpsons all week.

feeling anxious about the riots in london and other locations in our country
I work for the NHS and we,like the police, are overstretched  without this happening
Feel so sorry for those losing their businesses  and  those who cannot  feel safe in their own homes. Lets hope things improve soon.
So. to try and cheer up , spent the evening making another  carpet bag, I am pleased with the outside, but  the plain bright silk lining does not  work, so back to the drawing board.....

Got the hang of the super stiff iron on interfacing this time, I've developed ironing muscles now
( which is just as well as seem to spend all my time bag making instead of going to gym )
Used a lining of chinese brocade from mother's stash

Have been dying to try a carpet bag with a spring frame
Used some old ikea canvas print and lined with green cotton with a brocade trim
My daughter loves the print. I put the frame in.... 1. upside down..... 2. back to front
Got it right on third attempt but then dropped little teeny weeny screw from hinge onto floor covered with threads and scraps  agghh.
Now want to make a much bigger one .

great fabric to mess about with, so cheap and so good as a base to pretty up however you want
dusted off the yo -yo maker for a bit of colour; think for the next one I might go mad and line with bright metallic silk ?
